To celebrate the mid-point of summer, the approach of hockey season and the arrival of Adam Sherlip (@HockeyIdealist), the DC Tweeps will be gathering at the Beacon Bar & Grill on Wednesday, July 22. DC Tweetup 3.0, Round 2

Once, twice, three times a Tweetup! With DC’s home team rounding up into the second, and heading onto the road to Pittsburgh, the DC tweeps are tweeting up for Round 2, making a third official NHL Tweetup during the playoffs! We’re heading to our homestead for the year, so far, Old Dominion Brewhouse, who has kindly hosted us twice before, where we will be gathered together amidst tons of TV screens focused on the Caps/Pens game on Wednesday, May 6.

For DC, though, the NHL Tweetups have been more than just an occasional occurrence. During home games, tweeps who attend the game meet up at the same section (108 next to the BBQ Pit Stand) during each intermission to mingle and chat and talk about the game or what has happened during the day or the week. Of course, lately it seems all we can seem to talk about are the amazing acrobatics of Semyon Varlamov! What started as an event created by the NHL to gather those on Twitter in the name of hockey has developed into friendships outside of Twitter.

As long as there is hockey, I’m sure there will be tweeps in DC gathering for tweetups! We’ll be meeting for our third on Wednesday, and most likely our fourth on Friday to cheer on the Capitals as they take on the Penguins on the road. But, more than anything, while we do enjoy gathering for the hockey, we do it for the friendship… well, and the amazing beer towers.

2nd DC Tweetup: Game 6

D.C. had a tremendous turn-out for its second NHL Tweetup. It was planned pending Game 6, which wasn’t decided until Friday night. So, while the twtvite went out, people were hesitant to RSVP out of superstition before the Caps won Game 5 (say it isn’t so, right?). But, as soon as the Caps pulled off a sweet victory in the Phone Booth on Friday night, the RSVPs rolled in, and on Sunday, tweeps gathered in and even brought friends to our hosting brewpub, Old Dominion Brewhouse. A few guests who came in to watch the game at ODB saw our excitement, and ended up joining our section as well! A total of 29 tweeps gathered in to watch the Caps knock off the Rangers in Game 6 to force Game 7 back to Caps’ home ice in the nation’s capital!

We will, of course, continue to mini-tweetup at Game 7, as we have during the playoff home games. We have enjoyed meeting, re-meeting and getting to see each other during the week and see faces outside of Twitter.

Thanks to Old Dominion for being our gracious hosts for a second time around, and for providing great prizes for giveaways, including drinks, hats, shirts, and even Capitals logo glasses, since we didn’t have any luring Caps gear to give away like we did last time! It was a great day for the Tweetup in D.C., and a fantastic afternoon for hockey!

Hockey Night in Washington!

Caps fans were out in force last night for the first-ever Washington, D.C. NHL Tweetup & Stanley Cup Playoff Viewing Party! A total of 28 Tweeps gathered at Old Dominion Brewery to watch the Caps dominate the New York Rangers. A few select photos from the evening!

DC Tweetup Now April 20 – Please read!

Details of the DC NHL Tweetup have changed! Because the Caps play at home the night of April 15, we decided it would best to reschedule our event for April 20, when the Caps play the Rangers in New York. There seems to be a great deal of support for the change, but we still need more folks to sign up! Here are the new details:

Date: Monday, April 20

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Location: Old Dominion Brew House (1219 9th Street, NW)

Beer sponsor: Secured, announcement coming shortly!

Giveaways: Two items signed by Alex Ovechkin, a stick signed by Chris Clark, one annual subscription to NHL GameCenter Live, goodies from the NHL and more!

Question for DC Tweeps

Hi, all. For all those who have RSVP’d for Wednesday’s Tweetup at Clyde’s — I have a question for you. Given that the Caps play at home that night and some of us have tickets to the game, I’m wondering if it might make more sense for us to move the Tweetup to Monday, April 20, when the Caps play their first away game of the first round. If we do that, we won’t have to split right when the fun is starting, and even better – we will also get a beer sponsor (which will require a venue change, but more on that later)! Hopefully by that point I will have heard from the team regarding their official participation. All around, I feel like this is a good move that will make for a better event.

So my question is this — if we move the date, will you still come? Please either comment here or @lorirusso me.

DC Tweetup Details Announced!

To all NHL fans in the DC area — we’re joining in the Tweetup fun! We’re in a bit of a difficult position at the moment because we don’t yet know whether the Caps will be playing the night of the 15th. Regardless, there will be playoff hockey to watch and the launch of The Portal at NHL.com to celebrate!

Date: Wednesday, April 15

Time: 6:00 p.m.

Venue: Clyde’s at Gallery Place

Holding the Tweetup at Clyde’s will make it convenient for anyone who has tickets to the game, if there is one that night, to attend the Tweetup for a bit before the game starts.

Along those lines, I am hoping to find a co-host who is willing to help me plan the event, because if there is a Caps game the night of the 15th, I will be going. If someone will volunteer to help me out and see the Tweetup through, that would be awesome.

Also, I’m looking into sponsorship opportunities and other ideas for making this a great event for everyone. Stay tuned for more info!
